tacchini chairTacchini Italian firm has reissued two of the classics of the architect and designer Achille Castiglioni: the chair and sofa Sancarlo, originally produced by Driade (1970), and the chair Babel Gavina (1958). Babel was created with his brother Pier Giacomo in the Chamber of Commerce of Milan.

Sancarlo, synthesis of ergonomics and design, born of a request from the company Driade the prestigious designer who for 20 years not designing a chair. The latter had been the Sanluca, along with his brother Pier Giacomo, a piece highly acclaimed by the critics of his time but was unsuccessful.

For the new project, separate elements of thought headrest, lower back and extremities. Cushions, thanks to new technology, are manufactured today with foam of different densities. The structure is carried out with elbow, evoking the Bauhaus, and the only thing that has changed is the finish. The traditional chrome paint has been replaced with a choice of color. Sancarlo is also available as a sofa.

The chair Babel (in reference to the Tower of Babel) was designed by the Castiglioni brothers for the Chamber of Commerce of Milan in 1958. The chair is designed to be comfortable and at the same time, help maintain the vertical position. Also had a metal frame and could be stacked to fully optimize the available space when not used.

Later, the original steel structure was replaced by a wooden one, but both the form and the cover remained the same. Now he has regained the metal structure and, taking into account the current and the origins of Babel, is designed for meeting rooms, hotels and restaurants.

The study was established by Achille, Castiglioni (1918-2020) and his brother Pier Giacomo (1913-1968) in 1938, achieving great international success until the death of the second, in the late ’70s.
