Modern Classic Red and Blue Chair By Rietveld
He worked in wood and said furniture should be composed of simple square pieces, screwed together. His chair was made of rectangular pieces of plywood, painted in primary colors, and screwed together. One of the functions of Rietveld’s chairs, with their hard seats and backs, is to focus the senses, to make us alert and aware. Rietveld was not interested in conventional ideas of comfort. Rietveld’s “Red and Blue” chair is now in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
