The architect, planner and designer Franco Albini (1905-1977 Robiatte Milan) is the author of the rocking sofa, Cassina has reissued it exclusively in his collection “Cassina I Maestri” and presented during the last Milan Furniture Fair .Albini was known as the architect of the unstable equilibria and poetic approach to design has been restored in all its authenticity thanks to the respectful reissue that Cassina has carried out couch, one of his most significant.
The project, which dates from 1945, has been a faithful reproduction that has allowed to retain its present and expressive force, respecting the philosophy and spirit of the original concept. To obtain this result, the Italian firm has applied the methodology used in the reconstruction of each of the pieces of his collection “Cassina I Maestri” (Cassina Masters): the search for original documents and prototypes, as well as direct contact with the descendants of the designers and their official foundations. The rationalist architect was the first Italian to be entered into the collection in 2008.
In the case of Albini and canapés, Cassina undertook a detailed analysis of the pictures stored in the archives of the Fondazione Franco Albini. Conceptually, Canapé fully expresses the search for balance in the work of Albini. The analytical decomposition of the object, one of the designer’s stylistic codes, opens it perfectly to the production. The result is a bright and balanced equipment that invites contemplation and relaxation. The curved line dominates the design with special emphasis on the joints. The structure and lateral arches, natural wood or stained, show a combination of traditional craftsmanship with cutting edge technology.
Bearing fabric ecru strings can be set using a graphic form along the sides, while the polyurethane foam cushion, upholstered in leather or cloth folding is divided into modules. The result is a true piece of design culture.
