Japanese designer Shin Azumi started this project for the Italian firm Lapalma as an experiment to show the excellence of bent plywood to the fullest. The goal was not only exploring the sculptural beauty, but also to maximize the functionality in a minimal structure. The end result is the AP stool with a unibody structure with no seams or joints, created from a single sheet of plywood. Unlike other parts of this type, there are no divisions or interruptions that may lead to the human eye to be distracted.

The seat of the stool and body seamlessly fused in one fluid motion and relaxed, showing the same functionality as shown in other studies of Azumi.
Shin Azumi (Kobe, 1965) is considered one of the most prolific designers of the moment and combines this activity with teaching. His winning work highlights the fusion between the physical and psychological, prioritizing functionality. Azumi studied Product Design at Kyoto, and industrial design at the Royal College of Art in the UK. A mid 90′s, I think the study in partnership with Tomoko Azumi Azumi and in 2005 created his own studio to studio, based in London.
It’s business covers product design, furniture and space. Its clients include major companies such as iGuzzini, Muji, Desalto, Magis or Lapalma. His works have been published worldwide and have also been acquired for permanent collections of many museums such as the Victoria & Albert Museum The Stdelijk Museum or Vitra Design Museum.

Lapalma is an Italian contemporary design furniture, modern and functional, with over 30 years history and located in Cadoneghe, near Padua.
